Shepherd Park Projects

A tiny art gallery for the friends and families of Shepherd Park Plaza, Houston, Texas.

Shepherd Park Projects

It all started when…

We had an idea to create some community dialogue around art. From the symphony to the museums, Houston has one of the largest and richest arts communities in the United States. We thought it would be a wonderful idea to introduce our neighborhood to the talented Houston artists, many of them are our neighbors!

We made a tiny art gallery and named it “Shepherd Park Projects.” We feature Houston area artists. Come by anytime to see our tiny gallery at 983 Chamboard Lane, Houston, TX 77018

Gilding The Lilly by Steve Murphy

Our neighbor across the street, Steve Murphy, is a resident of Shepherd Park Plaza for over 31 years.

An alumnus of the University of Houston, he is an accomplished artist and his work has been exhibited internationally. He is represented by William Campbell Gallery in Ft. Worth and his sculptures are in several notable private, public, and museum collections.

Steve’s work deals with the classic elements of sculpture; form, volume, surface, and edge. His current body of work is the result of a continued reductive investigation of those sculptural elements. Minimalism is not strived for in these pieces but is referenced as a result of reducing these elements to simple yet engaging geometric formats.

About his work, Steve says, “I want the pieces to allow the viewer to slow down, have a quiet, meditative-like experience when contemplating these works, and hopefully walk away with a fresh way of seeing and experiencing the world around them.”

Solo exhibition at the 2018 Venice Architectural Biennale, The Museum of South East Texas, Houston Baptist University, Travis Tower and Houston City Hall. Also included in group exhibitions; Houston Artists: Gestural and Geometric Abstraction, Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, Alabama, Texas Abstract Exhibition, Galveston Art Center, Galveston, Texas, Under The Rotunda, Texas Capitol Building, Austin Texas and A Panoramic View, Islander Gallery, A&M University, Corpus Christi, Texas.
